WASHINGTON
(Reuters) -
The
number of Americans filing initial claims for jobless aid grew by
more than expected last week, government data showed on Thursday,
but the rolling average again fell and stands at a 3-1/2 year low.
First-time
claims for state unemployment benefits rose 12,000 to 345,000 in
the week ended May 15, the Labor Department said.
Wall
Street analysts had forecast a slight decline in claims to 326,000
from a revised 333,000 the previous week. This was initially reported
at 331,000.
